Learn more about Pinterest Trends and how you can use this free research tool to improve your Pinterest marketing strategies.
Knowing what Pinterest users are looking for on Pinterest doesn’t have to be morse code that you’re trying to translate. In fact, Pinterest provides the tools you need to see what the top trends are on Pinterest every week.
How do you see what’s trending on Pinterest?
With the Pinterest Trends tool, you can complete keyword research and determine the best times to publish pins that cover certain topics. Pinterest Trends is a relatively new tool that launched in December 2019. You can use it to see what search terms are trending in Pinterest’s top categories: Fashion, Food & Drink, Beauty, Home, and Travel.
According to Pinterest, this free tool will
give a view of the top US search terms within the past 12 months, and a look into when top search terms peak so you can better understand how content performs on Pinterest.
How To Use Pinterest Trends To Do Pinterest SEO Research
Go to the Pinterest Trends page and start typing in a keyword term into the search bar. Take a look at the search queries that populate.
For example, let’s type in the keyword instant pot. Pinterest showed me some related search queries as well as the most popular pins. It showed you when instant pot was searched for the most in the last year so you can make the best guess on when instant pot will be most popular again in the next year.
In the next example, let’s compare instant pot with instant pot mac and cheese. The graph will show you a comparison of the search volumes for the two different keywords.
Where to Put Keywords on Pinterest
You can put keywords in the pin design, the pin title, and the pin description as well as board titles and board descriptions. Since I just showed instant pot as an example, here is the workflow I follow when adding a new topic to a Pinterest account:
- Create a Pinterest board and title it “Instant Pot Recipes”
- In the board description, I would include some of the keywords that I found using the trends tool
- Create a pin design that includes “instant pot” in the text somewhere on the pin graphic
- Add the pin to Pinterest and add the blog post URL
- Add the main keyword to the pin title
- Include 2 or 3 keywords in the pin description when they’re applicable
- Publish the pin to the instant pot board!
Content Planning with Pinterest
You can also use this tool to help you plan your content calendar! Check out the trends page to see what the top searches are. Pinterest typically updates the list every 2 to 3 weeks.
Let’s say that you’re a food blogger, and you’re interested in adding pumpkin recipes to your blog this fall. You can gather ideas with the aid of auto-complete suggestions.
Here, you can see that pumpkins are a popular topic! If you’re specifically looking for recipes, then take note of pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, and pumpkin cookies. When I clicked on pumpkin muffins, some of the related search queries included pumpkin spice muffins, healthy pumpkin muffins, and pumpkin chocolate chip muffins.
As you can see, Pinterest Trends is a powerful tool that can help you boost your Pinterest SEO and give your business more brand awareness.
