However, it’s important to note that Instagram doesn’t like large blocks of open spaces or multiple line breaks without characters, and there is still a 2,200-character limit for captions
Why add line breaks?
Instagram is a visual platform where users share photos and videos with their followers. However, it’s not just about the visuals. The text that accompanies the content is just as important. A well-written caption or bio can make a big difference in engaging with your audience.
Regarding your Instagram bio, it’s important to make it easy to read and visually appealing. One way to do that is by adding line breaks. Line breaks allow you to separate your text into smaller, more digestible chunks, making reading and understanding easier for your audience.

Why don’t return spaces appear in my Instagram posts?

How to Add Line Breaks on Instagram Mobile App
Step 1: Open Instagram and Go to Your Profile
First, open the Instagram app on your mobile device and go to your profile by tapping on your profile picture in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Tap on Edit Profile
Once you are on your profile page, tap the “Edit Profile” button right below your profile picture and bio.
Step 3: Add Line Breaks to Bio
To add line breaks to your bio, type out your bio in the “Bio” section and hit the “Return” key on your keyboard where you want the line break to occur. The line break appears in the bio preview section above the text input field.
Note: Make sure you tap on the space bar on your keyboard. There needs to be a single space at every line break.
Note that you can only add a maximum of four line breaks in your bio, so use them wisely.
Step 4: Save Changes
Once you have added the desired line breaks to your bio, scroll down to the bottom of the “Edit Profile” page and hit the “Save” button to save your changes.
That’s it! You successfully added line breaks to your Instagram bio on the mobile app.
How to Add Line Breaks Using iPhone Notes
When it comes to writing Instagram captions, this is my preferred method because I can easily create a clean line break. Plus, if you’re creating a lengthy message, it will automatically save on your Notes app.
To add line breaks using iPhone Notes, you can press the Return key, then the Space key, then hit Return key again. Then you can start typing out the next paragraph in your caption.
After you complete your Instagram caption, highlight everything in your Notes app and click on Copy.
How to Add Line Breaks Using a Scheduling App
The process of adding line breaks using a scheduling app may vary depending on your specific app. However, in general, you can add line breaks to your schedule by pressing the Return or Enter key on your keyboard or using the app’s formatting options to create a new line or paragraph.
To copy and paste a line break on Instagram, you can use an invisible character that appears as a blank space. Here’s how to do it:
- Go to a website that generates an invisible character, such as Instagram Text Spacer or IG Line Break Caption Generator.
- Copy the invisible character by clicking the “Copy” button next to it.
- Open the Instagram app and create a new post or edit an existing one.
- Type out your caption, including the line breaks where you want them.
- Paste the invisible character where you want to add a line break by pressing and holding on the screen where you want to paste it and selecting “Paste” from the menu that appears.
- Preview your post to make sure the line breaks appear as you intended.
